About Mike Meyer:
Mike Meyer is a sign painter from Mazeppa, a small rural town in Minnesota. He has run his own business since 1989 and, as well as hosting many in his own shop, regularly travels the world to attend and support Letterheads sign painter events.
He is an ambassador for the sign painting business and, in 2012, his dedication was recognised through an appearance in the internationally acclaimed film, Sign Painters. In 2013 he held his first ever hand-lettering workshop in Christchurch, New Zealand, and this has now gone on to inspire people in London, Berlin, Amsterdam, New York, Sydney, Melbourne, Oslo and more.
In his own words, ‘Nothing can replace the ‘power’ of what a brush in your hand can produce’.
Hand Lettering Workshop
This workshop focuses on the Gothic (Block), Casual and Script letter forms through a hands-on process of practice, personal critique and expert guidance from Mike Meyer. It all starts with a pencil, drawing and developing an understanding of the basic letter forms. These then form the basis for building your brush skills. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those wanting to improve and refine their existing skills.
Lettering Effects Workshop
For those that have some of the basics under control, this workshop offers a chance to learn a range of techniques to add something extra to your painted letter forms. Mike will guide you through a variety of lettering effects, including: basic shadows; outlines; bevels; convex and concave lettering; trick lettering; masking lettering; cut and roll fades. The aim is to accelerate your ability to create more distinctive lettering for all sorts of purposes, using colours in the process.
The Workshops are held in English.
